Winter Outdoor Opportunities

Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

Cross Country skiing and snowshoeing are two popular activities at Bunker Hill Golf Course and Eagle Point Park. Cross Country skiing and showshoeing is allowed in any of Dubuque’s parks or along the city’s trail systems. The parks and trails are open for Cross Country skiing when areas are completely covered with snow. Bunker Hill Golf Course requires a minimum of three inches of snow cover and it is requested that tees and greens not be used. Tees are level, rectangular areas with wooden posts nearby, and greens are level, circular areas which are susceptible to snow compaction damage. Specific trails are not groomed so come enjoy and be the first one to create a new trek! Cross-Country skiing and snowshoeing is available from sunrise to sunset.

Ice Skating

Allison-Henderson Park is home to Dubuque’s lighted outdoor skating rink. Strap on your ice skates and meet your family and friends at Allison-Henderson Park, located at the corner of North Grandview Avenue and Loras Boulevard. The rink is equipped with two goals for hockey games but can also be enjoyed for free skating. This rink is unsupervised but is available to groups or individuals on a first come-first serve basis. The ice skating rink is open daily from 9:00 a.m.to 9:30 p.m. Lights are available from 4:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The light switch is located on a gray electrical utility box along Nowata Street. No restroom facilities are available.

Sledding

Sledding is allowed in all City parks and Bunker Hill Golf Course. Please remember that sledding in any City park or property is at your own risk.
