Purpose

  • To hold hearings, compel the production of evidence, and determine the merits of complaints alleging unfair or discriminatory practices in housing, employment, education, credit, or places of public accommodation.
  • To investigate and study the existence, character, causes, and extent of discrimination and to attempt to eliminate discrimination by educating the public and promoting human rights in the community.
  • To take action in the community to promote civil and respectful behavior and to eliminate discrimination based on age, race, creed, color, sex, national origin, religion, ancestry, disability, marital status, familial status, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
