Request a Ride-Along
No two shifts are the same. See firsthand what it’s like to serve as a first responder. Our ride-along program lets you shadow a Battalion Chief at Headquarters and experience the fast-paced, world of the Dubuque Fire Department. You’ll witness station life, responsibilities between calls, and join the crew as they respond to EMS, fire, and rescue emergencies.
Ride-alongs are available any day of the week for up to 12 hours between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Stay for an hour or the whole shift—just be ready to roll when the call comes in.
To join, you must...
1. Be 18 years old or a high school student with legal guardian permission.
2. Pass a background check if you are 18 or older.
3. Review and complete the ride-along policy and liability forms provided when you schedule your ride-along.
Next steps: Contact Assistant Fire Marshal Derek Paulson to schedule your ride-along. He will provide the necessary forms and further instructions. Reach him at 563-589-4195 or dpaulson@cityofdubuque.org.
