Sex Offender Compliance

The Dubuque Police Department is committed to providing a safe community for all of its citizens. One element of our safe community strategy is to notify citizens of registered sexual offenders who are residing within the City of Dubuque. The State of Iowa, Department of Public Safety, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is the agency that oversees the registration of all convicted sexual offenders since 1995 and maintains the database of all registered sexual offenders within the State.  The Dubuque Police Department also conducts monthly compliance checks on all registered sex offenders residing in the city.

How to Find a Registered Sex Offender

The Dubuque Police Department believes that it is important for our community members to be aware of the fact that sexual offenders who were convicted prior to July 1, 1995, are not required by law to register as sexual offenders.

As such, the Dubuque Police Department encourages all community members to be mindful of the people whom they interact with and with whom they allow their children to interact with and, to take all appropriate security and safety precautions. Citizens who would like to access the DCI sexual offender database, can do so by visiting Iowa Sex Offender Registry, or the Dubuque County Sheriff's Office located at 770 Iowa Street, and completing a Request for Registry Information form. Residents completing this form will be required to have a specific name of a suspected sexual offender and one of the following: address, date of birth, or social security number.
