The Successful Rental Property Management class scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3 has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A class will be held in the spring of 2021 with a date and details to be released as soon as they are available.

Overview

The Successful Rental Property Management program (formerly known as Dubuque Crime-Free Multi-Housing Program) was started in 1995 to provide property owners comprehensive information on all aspects of managing rental housing, with special emphasis on how to reduce crime in rental property.

The program is offered two times a year and is co-sponsored by Northeast Iowa Community College. 

The Dubuque City Council, upon recommendations from the Safe Community Task Force, passed an ordinance change making attendance mandatory for property owners/managers.  Owners/managers are only required to attend one session.

Topics

The presenters included local attorneys and representatives from the City of Dubuque’s Police, Fire, Legal, and Housing Departments.

  • Writing rental agreements
  • Handling evictions
  • Property security and fire safety
  • Police services
  • Rental property inspections
