[ARCHIVED] Repaving of NW Arterial Southbound Lanes To Begin Tuesday, Aug. 30

Paving of the northbound lanes near the Northwest Arterial and Asbury Rd. intersection is now complete. The next phase of the Northwest Arterial State of Good Repair Project is milling and resurfacing the arterial southbound lanes from John F. Kennedy Rd. to U.S. 20. In addition to milling and resurfacing the lanes, four-foot-wide paved shoulders will be added to widen the road.

Milling of the southbound lanes from John F. Kennedy Rd. to just north of Pennsylvania Ave. is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Aug. 30. Motorists can expect alternating lane closures. Flaggers will be on site to control and assist traffic. Note, the contractor is required to mill the Asbury Rd. intersection between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Following the milling, paved shoulder work is expected to begin on Thursday, Sept. 1. Traffic will be maintained with alternating lane closures. No work is scheduled for Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 5.

Next, the asphalt overlay paving will occur. This is scheduled to begin Thursday, Sept. 8, and is expected to be finished by Friday, Sept. 9. As with the milling, traffic will be maintained with alternating lane closures. The contractor is required to pave the Asbury Rd. intersection between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Note, the Asbury Rd. intersection will temporarily close for approximately 40 minutes for paving. During this time, flaggers will be on site to control and assist traffic.

After this section of the southbound arterial lanes is finished, the same process will occur for the remaining portion from north of Pennsylvania Ave. to U.S. 20. Specific dates associated with the work will be shared when they become available.

If you have questions regarding the closure/detour, please contact the City of Dubuque Engineering Department at 563.589.4270. Please note: closure dates/times are estimates and are subject to change without notification based on weather and contractor schedules.
