[ARCHIVED] Dubuque Offers Houses and Garages for Sale

The City is taking bids from persons interested in purchasing houses, garages, or sheds and removing them from City property.

The City of Dubuque has been acquiring properties for the Bee Branch Creek Restoration Project. While some of these properties are vacant, the City must remove more than 50 homes, over 20 garages, and numerous sheds from the properties to make way for the stormwater management project.

If no bids are received to purchase and move a building, the City will have to hire a contractor to deconstruct the building at a later date. For this reason, the City will consider bids whereby the City would make payment to someone who agrees to assume ownership of the building and move it from the property. Therefore, there are two alternative ways that interested persons may place a bid:

1)Bid an amount that they are willing to pay to the City to take over ownership of a building and move it from City property, or

2)Bid an amount that they would except as payment from the City in order for the person to take over ownership of a building and move it from City property.

All buildings sold to the public must be removed from City property by August 27, 2010.

Persons interested in purchasing a building should contact the City of Dubuque Engineering Department at 563-589-4270 to obtain a listing of the buildings for sale as identified in the Bid Documents Manual.

Sealed bids for the purchase and removal of buildings must be received by the City Engineer of the City of Dubuque, Iowa, at the Office of the City Engineer in City Hall no later than 2:00 o’clock p.m. on April 22, 2010.
