[ARCHIVED] Deconstruction Training for Contractors

The City of Dubuque will be conducting a deconstruction training seminar on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. with a one hour break for lunch.

This deconstruction training seminar is being held in anticipation of future removal of 69 structures for the Bee Branch Open Channel Project that will begin in the summer of 2010.

The City plans to call for bids on the deconstruction of the Bee Branch structures in April or May. While attendance of City-sponsored deconstruction training seminar will not be a prerequisite for bidding on the City's upcoming deconstruction project, bidders will be required to show proof that at least one member of their staff members on the project has completed a comparable training program.

Topics to be covered in the training include:

Safety
Tools
Equipment
Layout of jobsite
Sequence of work
Deconstruction techniques
Layered materials
Debris handling
Maintaining salvage values
Handling & shipping
Jobsite inspection
Jobsite layout
What materials are to be salvaged?
How salvaged materials are to be removed and handled?
What materials are to be recycled.
A discussion on local recycling centers
Final wrap-up and questions

Contractors interested in attending the seminar must contact the City of Dubuque Engineering Department at 563-589-4270 by 5:00 p.m. on March 5. The location of the training will be announced at a later date.
