[ARCHIVED] 14th Annual Citizen's Police Academy

The Dubuque Police Dept. is accepting applications from Dubuque residents interested in participating in the 14th Annual Citizen's Police Academy.

The purpose of this program is to build a better understanding between the citizens and the police through education. The academy is not designed to make the participants police officers. All classes are taught by law enforcement professionals. Classroom time includes presentations on such topics as arrest procedures, search and seizure, use of force, criminal law, OWI, investigative procedures, drug enforcement, officer survival and prevention programs.

Applications are now being accepted with a submission deadline of January 15, 2010. Applications may be obtained at the information window of the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center at 770 Iowa St. They are also available online at the "Additional Info" link below , or you may call 589-4410 and an application will be faxed.

Requirements for participation are:
• resident of the city of Dubuque
• must be at least eighteen years of age
• no felony convictions
• no significant arrest history

Sessions will be held each Tuesday evening beginning February 9, 2010 through May 4, 2010. Each session begins at 6:00 PM and will conclude at approximately 9:00 PM. There will be one patrol ride-along that is mandatory and an optional firearms session.

Class size is limited. Those selected should be prepared to make a commitment to attend all thirteen sessions.
