[ARCHIVED] Citizen Police Academy

The Dubuque Police Department will be taking applications from residents of the city of Dubuque who wish to participate in the 13th session of the Citizen’s Police Academy. The purpose of this program is to build a better understanding between the citizens and the police through education. The Academy is not designed to make the participants police officers. All classes are taught by law enforcement professionals. Classroom time includes presentations on such topics as arrest procedures, search and seizure, use of force, criminal law, OWI, investigative procedures, drug enforcement, officer survival and prevention programs.

Applications will be accepted immediately with a submission deadline of January 16, 2009. Applications may be obtained at the information window of the Law Center located at 770 Iowa. They are also available on the Police Department website www.cityofdubuque.org, or you may call 589-4410 and an application will be FAX’d.

Requirements for participation are:
• resident of the city of Dubuque
• must be at least eighteen years of age
• no felony convictions
• no significant arrest history

Sessions will be held each Wednesday evening beginning February 11, 2009 through May 6, 2009. Each session begins at 6:00 PM and will conclude at approximately 9:15 PM. There will be two patrol ride-along that are mandatory and an optional firearms session.

Class size is limited. Those selected should be prepared to make a commitiment to attend all thirteen sessions.
