[ARCHIVED] Is there such a thing as a pumpkin afterlife?

Pumpkin AfterLife Graphic

It's never too soon to begin thinking about those end-of-life decisions -- for pumpkins! You don't have to write an obituary for Jack or Jackie O'Lantern, but make a plan so he or she will "live on!"

Don’t dispose of your pumpkins and gourds in your trash! Give them a “proper burial” by composting them rather than landfilling. If you don’t do backyard composting, pumpkins and gourds can be placed in your yard debris and food scrap set outs for curbside collection. Remember to remove and candles, wax, lights, or other non-compostable “accessories” you’ve added before composting. “Recycle” your pumpkins and gourds by placing in a yard debris or food scrap paper bag, can, or cart with the appropriate yellow sticker or annual decal. Remember that containers and bags must not weigh more than 40 pounds. Large pumpkins can be set out separately for collection as long as a yellow tag is attached.
