[ARCHIVED] Special Population Activities (Therapeutic Recreation)

Special Population programs provide sports/recreation/leisure/outreach services to people with physical/mental/emotional disabilities. Our goal is for participants to engage in activities that promote socialization/skill development/physical activity.



See below for our activity listing.  Pre-registration is required.


UNIFIED INDOOR SOCCER / KICKBALL.  On Tuesday evenings through April 17th (no program on Tuesday, March 27th).  Unified indoor soccer / kickball will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Marshall Elementary School located at 1450 Rhomberg Avenue.  Come join us and learn the fundamentals of ball control, dribbling, passing and goalkeeping.  This program is the perfect combination of strengthening motor skills while having fun with friends!  Fee is $10 for residents; $12 for non-residents.


BINGO & BANANA SPLITS!  On Thursday, March 22nd at the Bunker Hill Clubhouse from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Join us for a perfect combination for a fun night out!  Small prizes will be given away to our lucky Bingo winners.  Fee is $5 for residents; $6 for non-residents.   


BOWLING LEAGUE.  On Sunday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 pm through April 8th* at Creslanes Bowling Lanes located at 255 South Main Street.  (*NO bowling on Easter Sunday, April 1st.)  Take your game to the next level by participating in our Sunday League.  Participants will bowl 2 games each week and the scores will be tracked.  The bowler with the highest total score at the end of the 5 weeks will receive a $25 gift certificate from the Leisure Services Department to be used on future programs!  Fee is $25 for residents; $30 for non-residents.


COOKING CLASS.  On Thursday, April 5th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, class held at Hy-Vee (Community Room) located at 3500 Dodge Street.  Learn basic techniques while creating delicious meals!  Join Chef Roy for new recipes, tasty treats and table etiquette.  You will be eating the meals you prepare in class.  (NOTE:  No room available as this class is full.)
