[ARCHIVED] Hydrant Flushing on July 10 and 11

Photo of Hydrant Flushing

The City of Dubuque Water Department will flush water/fire hydrants in the Barrington Lakes, Cedar Crest, and Wildwood Estates subdivisions on Monday, July 10, and Tuesday, July 11.

This is being done on a monthly basis as regular system maintenance and to maintain water quality.

After hydrants are flushed, there may be air in your water piping and the water may be discolored.  The Water Department recommends you avoid doing laundry or using hot water until your water pipes have been flushed.  It is recommended to run the first water from a faucet that does not have an aerator screen, such as a bath tub or spigot/faucet located on the exterior of your home.

Open the faucet slowly to allow the air to escape.  Once the water is flowing, allow the faucet to run until it is clear.  The water may be cloudy at first due to air in the water or particles that dislodged as the pipes filled with water.  This should clear quickly.  Repeat this process with the remainder of your faucets.

If water is cloudy throughout the house and it does not clear after allowing the water to run for 2-3 minutes, contact the City of Dubuque Water Department at 563-589-4291 or visit www.cityofdubuque.org/water.

Please share this announcement with your neighbors.  Thank you.
