On January 3rd, 2016, at 11:43 p.m., Dubuque Police and Fire personnel responded to 942 Main Street on the report of an injured child.

As paramedics were caring for the child, they determined the injury was consistent with a gunshot wound. The child was transported to Finley Hospital and later air-lifted to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City where his current condition is stable. The handgun believed to be involved was recovered and seized. The child’s identity is Jeremiah Danta-Benjamin Horsley, age: 2 years & 11 months, of 942 Main Street.

On January 4th, 2016, at 11:48 a.m. Dubuque Police responded to 2944 Jackson Street on the report of a disturbance. Officers ultimately gained entry to the residence and located a deceased, adult male inside, later identified as Gary E. Breckenridge, 72, of that address. No one else was present in the residence. In accordance with protocol, a Medical Examiner Investigator was contacted and responded to the scene. The body of the deceased was later transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy in an effort to determine the cause and manner of death.

Both investigations remain ongoing and there are no indications the general public is in danger relating to either incident.
