[ARCHIVED] Speed Enforcement Project Yields 44 Citations

In response to citizen complaints of excessive speed, and in an effort to reduce crashes, Dubuque Police conducted a speed enforcement project on March 23rd from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the 2200 block of Dodge Street (Highway 20 West).

In response to citizen complaints of excessive speed, and in an effort to reduce crashes, Dubuque Police conducted a speed enforcement project on March 23rd from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the 2200 block of Dodge Street (Highway 20 West). During the 2½ hours, forty-four citations were issued with the average CITED speed violation being 59.6 miles per hour in the 45 miles per hour zone. With a limited number of officers available to participate in the project, only approximately ¼ of the speed violators could be stopped and cited. Among the forty-four citations, 2 were issued for driving with a suspended driver’s license and 1 warning ticket was issued for an equipment violation.

Citizens should expect increased traffic enforcement as weather/driving conditions improve and several local road construction projects begin, some on major thoroughfares including Dodge Street and Highway 151/61. In some cases, fines for violations in construction zones can be doubled. Motorists are urged to slow down, increase awareness and expect delays.
