[ARCHIVED] Powerball Donation Email Scam

Dubuque Police recently became aware of yet another scam in the area. This scam comes in the form of an email, seemingly from a recent Powerball winner (Nancy Honeywell).

Dubuque Police recently became aware of yet another scam in the area. This scam comes in the form of an email, seemingly from a recent Powerball winner (Nancy Honeywell). While Honeywell did actually win a recent Powerball jackpot, she and her family are not sending these emails offering to donate some of their winnings to the email recipient. A Powerball link is also provided in the email as an attempt to convince the recipient it is legitimate. The email reads as follows:

Hi,

My name is Nancy Honeywell, on February 6, 2013 my husband (Dave Honeywell) won the Powerball jackpot of $217 Million and we have decided to donate $1,924,108.00 USD to you to improve the lot of individuals all over the world. On receipt of this email, you should count yourself as the lucky individual. Kindly get back to me at your earliest convenience.

Visit Powerball web page for further verification:

Regards,
Nancy Honeywell
