[ARCHIVED] Police Investigate Shootings

On June 10th, at 8:53 p.m., Dubuque Police responded to the 1200 block of Iowa Street on the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers observed a large group of subjects in the street fighting.

On June 10th, at 8:53 p.m., Dubuque Police responded to the 1200 block of Iowa Street on the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers observed a large group of subjects in the street fighting. The group dispersed and fled the area, but two subjects were apprehended and identified as Christopher A. Sharpe II, 11/04/89, and Davon D. Harrison, 04/06/93, both of 380 ½ West Locust Street, Dubuque. Both were arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct. Officers and Investigators located evidence in the immediate area indicating shots were in fact fired during the disturbance. Disorderly Conduct is a simple misdemeanor punishable by a fine between $65 and $625, and/or incarceration up to 30 days.

Later, at 11:06 p.m., Dubuque Police responded to 15th and Bluff Streets on the report of a subject with a gun. The subject was located by officers in the area of 15th and Main Streets and a foot pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, the subject was observed pulling a gun and discarding it on the ground. The subject then produced a second gun and fired a shot behind him while still running from officers. The suspect was last seen near the alley between the 1200 blocks of Main and Iowa Streets. Personnel from the Dubuque Police Department, Asbury Police Department, Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, and Dubuque Park Patrol secured and searched the area. The suspect was located hiding in the area and was taken into custody without incident. He is identified as Daniel Lee Campbell Jr., 07/29/83, of 1293 Bluff St #3 Dubuque. Both handguns were recovered and determined to be stolen. Campbell was charged with Going Armed with Intent; Possession, Receipt, Transportation, or Dominion and Control of Firearms and Ammunition by a Felon; and 2 counts of Trafficking Stolen Weapons.
The weapon trafficking charges are Class C Felonies, punishable by a fine between $1,000 and $10,000, and imprisonment up to 10 years. Going Armed with Intent and Possession by a Felon are both Class D Felonies, punishable by a fine between $750 and $7,500, and imprisonment up to 5 years.

Both shootings are currently being investigated by the Dubuque Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and additional charges remain possible. Investigators are in the process of determining what, if any, connection there is between the two incidents.

As with any criminal case, the charges filed are allegations and any suspect(s) charged are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
