[ARCHIVED] Wahlert Criminal Mischief Suspect Arrested

On March 26th, 2013 at approximately 11:18 p.m., a suspect, unknown at the time, used a baseball bat to break the glass in 3 doors as Wahlert High School, 2005 Kane Street in Dubuque. Damage to the doors was estimated at $800.

On March 26th, 2013 at approximately 11:18 p.m., a suspect, unknown at the time, used a baseball bat to break the glass in 3 doors as Wahlert High School, 2005 Kane Street in Dubuque. Damage to the doors was estimated at $800.

Wahlert High School Officials and the Dubuque Police released surveillance images of the incident and were able to develop a suspect based on information provided by the public. The suspect was identified as Austin J. Lovett, 18, of 16629 Hales Mill Road, Dubuque. A search warrant was executed at Lovett’s residence on April 1st, 2013, and resulted in the seizure of evidence supporting his involvement. Lovett was interviewed by police on April 2nd, 2013, and ultimately admitted being responsible for the damage.

Charges of Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree were prepared and a warrant was issued for Lovett. On April 9th, Lovett turned himself in to police, made his initial appearance, and was released on a $2,000 signature bond. Third Degree Criminal Mischief is an Aggravated Misdemeanor punishable by up to 2 years in prison and a fine between $625 and $6,250.

As with any criminal case, the charges filed are allegations and any suspect(s) charged are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
