[ARCHIVED] Police Investigate Auto Accident, One Fatality

Dubuque Police investigated an accident on January 23, 2013 on Hwy 151/61 just north of the Catfish Creek Bridge that involved a fatality.

On January 23rd, 2013 at approximately 8:36 A.M., Dubuque Police and Fire Personnel responded to the area of Highway 151/61 just north of the Catfish Creek Bridge for a motor vehicle collision. Police determined that a motor vehicle southbound on the highway apparently lost control and crossed the median into the northbound lanes where it was struck by a northbound motor vehicle. As a result of the collision, the driver of the southbound vehicle, identified as Michael William Maher, age 65, of Dubuque died at the scene and a passenger in the vehicle, Donald Anthony Krier, age 61, of Dubuque was injured. Krier was transported to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque where he was treated for injuries and then air lifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic. A condition report on Krier was not available at the time of this media release.

The northbound vehicle was driven by Rachael Fitzpatrick, 33, of Dubuque. Two Fitzpatrick children, ages 2 and 4, were passengers in the Fitzpatrick vehicle. Rachael Fitzpatrick and her children were transported to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque where they were treated and released.

The accident remains under investigation.
