[ARCHIVED] Historic Washington Neighborhood Row Houses For Sale

The City of Dubuque Housing & Community Development Department is selling completely renovated and historically restored single-family town homes to moderate-income homebuyers.

The six units, located at 1767-1795 Washington Street, have approximately 1,200 sq. ft. of living space with full basements. Five two-story, two-bedroom units are being sold for $85,000 and one three-bedroom, two-story unit is selling for $95,000.

The homes are within walking distance of work, grocery stores, pharmacies, shopping, businesses, banks/credit unions, churches and restaurants.

The special financing package may allow qualified buyers to purchase one of the two-bedroom homes for as little as $45,100 in lender financing or $54,650 for the three-bedroom unit. The City is also offering a ten-year property tax abatement to help attract homebuyers to the project.

The rowhouses were originally built in 1910 for the Schmid family who owned and operated the Schmid Manufacturing Company. Through a partnership with the Dubuque Bank & Trust (DB&T) Community Corporation, the City of Dubuque and DB&T purchased six of the seven units in 2008. Funding for the project included a $240,000 I-Jobs grant which was used as part of a $700,000 budget to acquire the six rowhouses and perform a historic rehabilitation in accordance with federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requirements.
