On February 24th, 2011, at approximately 9:48 a.m., Dubuque Police responded to 2995 John F. Kennedy Road to check the welfare of Shani K. Smith, 40, of that address after she failed to show up for work.
Smith was located inside the residence deceased, initiating an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The initial investigation indicates the death was a homicide and the person responsible may have been known to her. Authorities do not believe the general public is at risk as this does not appear to have been a random act.
Police continue their investigation and additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.
