[ARCHIVED] 17 Year Old Charged with Multiple Felony Offenses

On January 12th, 2011 at approximately 3:39 a.m., Dubuque Police responded to 2465 Hillcrest Road on the report of an assault.

Upon arrival, officers located a discarded shotgun outside and a Hillcrest Family Services employee, Robert Mollman (age 58 of Dubuque) suffering from multiple injuries. Mollman told officers that a subject, later identified as Hillcrest Family Services resident Jesse N. Shimon 09/06/93 of 2485 Wilbricht Lane, had attempted to shoot him but the gun failed to fire. After the gun failed, Shimon proceeded to assault Mollman. Shimon fled the scene prior to police arrival, but was located a short time later hiding in a motor vehicle near 2443 Asbury Road, where he was taken into custody.

The investigation revealed that prior to the assault on Mollman, Shimon escaped from his room at Hillcrest Family Services and walked to University Auto (3135 University Avenue) where he burglarized the facility, stealing the above mentioned shotgun and a knife. Shimon also stole a motor vehicle from University Auto, but crashed it a short distance away in the 2700 block of University Avenue. After the crash, Shimon set off on foot and returned to Hillcrest Family Services, where the above assault occurred.

Shimon was charged as an adult and remains incarcerated in the Dubuque County Juvenile Detention Center on the following charges: Attempted Murder, Willful Injury, Attempted Burglary 1st, Burglary 3rd, Theft 2nd, and Trespass (Serious). Attempted Murder is a Class B Felony punishable by up to 25 years incarceration; Attempted Burglary 1st Degree, Burglary 2nd Degree and Willful Injury are all Class C Felonies punishable by up to 10 years incarceration and a fine between $1,000-$10,000; Theft 2nd Degree is a Class D Felony punishable by up to 5 years incarceration and a fine between $750-$7,500; Serious Misdemeanor Trespass is punishable by incarceration up to 1 year and a fine between $315-$1,875.

As with any criminal case, the charges filed are allegations and any suspect(s) charged are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
