[ARCHIVED] Dubuque Police K9 Takes 1st Place in Narcotic Warehouse Detection at K9 Olympics

The Dubuque Police K9 Unit, comprised of K9 Doerak and his handler, Officer Brian Wullweber, took first place (out of 74 K9 Teams) in the Narcotic Warehouse Detection event at this year’s K9 Olympics.

Doerak also placed well in a variety of other divisions despite challenging competition from other K9 Units including, but not limited to, those of the Secret Service, The Department of Defense, Terre Haute PD & East Chicago PD. During such events, it’s not uncommon for several K9 Teams to earn the same score after many of the events, in which case the “tie-breaker” is based on time and can come down to a matter of seconds in determining how teams place. In some of the other events, Doerak & Officer Wullweber placed as follows:

Narcotic Vehicle Exterior Detection: 17th /70
Narcotic Luggage Detection: 25th / 74
Narcotic Building Detection: 18th / 74
Control Scenario: 23rd / 91
Bite – No Bite Scenario: 34th /91
Tracking: 34th / 94
Overall Placement: 36th / 102
