The City of Dubuque is pleased to announce nine microgrant recipients for Dubuque’s participation in the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF).
Dubuque is one of 100 cities selected to participate in the YCAF program, which provides funding and technical assistance for young people between the ages of 15 and 24 to design, produce, and govern urgent climate solutions. Dubuque’s program was designed to enable local youth to organize and execute new projects to help the City achieve its climate action plan goals. The microgrants were open to applicants between the ages of 15 and 24 and youth-serving organizations where the project lead was in the designated age group. The City received $50,000 from Bloomberg Philanthropies for this project and each recipient will receive between $1,000 and $5,000 to achieve their goal.
“Congratulations to our Youth Climate Action Fund micro-grant recipients! We’re excited about the caliber of projects proposed and look forward to seeing youth-driven climate action burst forth to directly benefit the Dubuque community,” said Dubuque Mayor Brad Cavanagh. “These projects focus on waste-reduction, vector-borne illness, air quality, greenspace, and renewable energy. It has been inspiring to see the creativity and drive of Dubuque’s youth related to climate action.”
The recipients and their projects are as follows:
- Jacqueline Hunter – ToyCycle: Empowering Tomorrow’s Eco-Leaders
- Ashley Noonan – Moving to Zero Waste at UD
- Paige Manning – Increasing Awareness About Vector Borne Diseases
- David Witthoeft – Solar Powered Charging Banks
- Kyra Stoll – Greening Dubuque
- Amanda Soat – Sustainable Stories: Books for the Community
- Maddie Hoffman – Solution to Recognizing Air Pollution
- Ana Rivera – Dubuque Sustainable Shopping Guide

The City looks forward to seeing the results of these projects and their impact on the community as a whole. A small amount of funding is still available, and applications are welcome. More information can be found at www.sustainabledubuque.org/ycaf
