[ARCHIVED] Suspect Arrested on Attempted Murder Warrant

On September 21st, 2016, at 7:17 a.m., Dubuque Police arrested Charles A. Layfield, 29, of 2227 Washington Street, at the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center on charges of Attempted Murder, Going Armed with Intent, and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon.

The charges stem from Layfield’s alleged involvement in a shooting near 19th and Jackson Street around 1:00 a.m. on September 11th. Also arrested immediately following the shooting was Shadeed J. Monroe, 22, of 1593½ Main Street, Dubuque, who was located in the area still armed with a handgun. He was charged with Reckless Use of a Firearm and has since been released from jail. At the scene, officers also located shell casings, a handgun, and blood, however no one reported being injured by gunfire. Additional charges are possible pertaining to this incident.

Layfield remains incarcerated at the Dubuque County Jail on a cash bond of $760,000. Attempted Murder is a Class B Felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Going Armed with Intent and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon are both Class D Felonies punishable by a fine between $750 & $7,500, and imprisonment up to 5 years.
