On March 29th, 2015, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., Dubuque Police conducted a special traffic enforcement project on Dodge Street (Highway 20) and Kelly Lane.
This enforcement effort was primarily complaint-driven after numerous citizens voiced concern regarding excessive speed on these roads.
During the first 2 hours of the project, 4 officers and a Lieutenant conducted enforcement in the westbound lanes of Dodge Street (2200 block). Officers issued seventeen citations for speeding, 1 for no driver’s license and 1 for no insurance. The average speed on Dodge Street was 61.5 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.
During the second 2 hours of the project, officers conducted enforcement on Kelly Lane near Edwards Street. Officers wrote 9 speeding citations, 2 warning citations for speeding, 1 citation for no insurance and 1 for underage possession of alcohol. The average speed on Kelly Lane was 37.7 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone.
A total of twenty-six citations were issued for speeding (along with 2 warnings), 2 citations for no insurance, 1 citation for not having a driver’s license and 1 citation for underage possession of alcohol.
