The Dubuque Police Department is taking applications from Dubuque residents wishing to participate in the 17th session of the Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA).
The Dubuque Police Department is taking applications from Dubuque residents wishing to participate in the 17th session of the Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA). The purpose of this program is to build a better understanding between citizens and police through education and interaction. The CPA is not designed to certify participants as police officers. All classes are taught by law enforcement professionals and other members of the Criminal Justice System. Classroom time includes presentations regarding arrest procedures, search & seizure, use of force, laws & policies, police procedures, domestic abuse cases, sexual abuse cases, drug enforcement, OWI’s, officer safety, and prevention programs.
Applications for the CPA are now being accepted and must be received by January 20th, 2013. Applications can be picked up at the Police Department (770 Iowa St.), or downloaded at www.cityofdubuque.org/cpa.
Requirements for participation are:
* Resident of the City of Dubuque
* At least 18 years of age
* No felony convictions and or significant arrest history
The classes are scheduled as follows:
* Ten sessions beginning February 12th, through April 16th, 2013
* Sessions are held every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Additionally, one 4-hour patrol ride along is required. Class size is limited. Those selected should be prepared to make a commitment to attend all ten sessions.
