For the 6th consecutive year, Dubuque Police conducted a special project that significantly increased police presence at Dubuque Community Schools during the first week of school at both arrival and dismissal times. The project involved officers adjusting their shift hours to accommodate the arrival/dismissal times of area schools. The duration of the project was one week and resulted in 269 extra police patrols in or immediately around school zones. During the project, officers focused on violations that decrease and/or jeopardize the safety of students and school staff. Response to this project was again overwhelmingly positive and included both officers and students reporting positive interaction with one another, as well as enhanced safety in and around the schools. As time and calls for service permit, officers will continue to provide extra attention to area schools, especially during arrival/dismissal time.
