On April 25th, 2011, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Dubuque Police responded to an armed robbery at the Puff-n-Snuff located at 1101 Rhomberg Avenue.
The investigation revealed that a white male suspect entered the store, displayed a knife, and stole money from the cash register. The suspect fled the area on foot and was not immediately relocated. No one was injured during the robbery. Investigators later developed a suspect, identified as Tobin Gerald McKenzie, 42, of 924 Garfield Avenue.
On April 28th, 2011, a search warrant was conducted at McKenzie’s residence and evidence relating to the above-mentioned robbery was seized. Evidence from the January 26th (2011) armed robbery of the Puff-n-Snuff where a knife was displayed was also seized during the search.
McKenzie was arrested and charged with two counts of Robbery 1st Degree. He is currently incarcerated in the Dubuque County Jail awaiting his initial court appearance. Robbery 1st Degree is a Class B Felony, punishable by up to 25 years confinement.
