Current Initiatives

Central Avenue Corridor Initiative

The Central Avenue corridor connects Dubuque’s downtown and Historic Millwork District to the city’s North End. Central Avenue has historically been the “main street” for the Washington Neighborhood, one of Dubuque's oldest neighborhoods, and is lined with historic buildings offering commercial and retail opportunities on the ground floor and residential spaces on upper floors.

Historic Millwork District Revitalization

The Historic Millwork District is saturated with history. It imbues the area with authenticity and character while offering valuable lessons about the importance of sustainable urban design strategies.

Brownfields Multipurpose Grant

In 2019, Dubuque was selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to receive $800,000 in Brownfields funding through the Multipurpose, Assessment, and Cleanup (MAC) Grant program. The multipurpose grant funding is being used to conduct five environmental site assessments, develop two cleanup and reuse plans, and clean up three catalyst sites.
