New Programming & Rate Increase

This Cable TV update includes information on new programming and an upcoming Mediacom rate increase.

First:  the programming.  Thanksgiving night (Thursday, November 28) at 9 p.m. on CityChannel Dubuque (cable channel 8 or digital 117.2), will be the premiere of "Picking Cotton" on CityChannel Dubuque.  This program is a result of the recent All Community Reads event sponsored by the Carnegie-Stout Public Library.  The book Picking Cotton tells the story of an unlikely friendship and their journey through restorative justice.  A college student who was raped picked a man (Ronald Cotton) out of a police lineup.  He was eventually convicted and sentenced to prison.  After 11 years DNA exonerated him.  The two eventually met and wrote a book about their story.  Earlier this month the two authors appeared before a packed house at Five Flags Theater and held a community discussion with those in attendance.  The program is about 90 minutes in length and will be available on the City's website.

The annual Growing Sustainable Communities conference was held in October at the Grand River Center.  Two keynote addresses from the conference, by Jim Shultz and Katharine Hayhoe, are now airing on CityChannel Dubuque and are available online.

Our Southwest Arterial construction updates have ended for this construction season.  We expect them to start up again in the spring as the final touches are put on this project slated to open to traffic sometime in 2020.

Now:  the rate increase.  Mediacom will be instituting another increase, this one effective on or about December 22, 2019.  Their Family Package tier on its own is going up $4.50 per month.  Added to that are increases in the two surcharges (Local Broadcast Station & Regional Sports) totaling $1.62 per month.  The total cost of the Family Package when these increases go into effect will be $102.32 per month.  In February 2020 a new regional sports network, Marquee Sports, will be launching in certain markets in Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa.  Those markets will be subject to an additional $2.05 per month in the regional sports network surcharge.  Mediacom is also increasing fees for equipment, trip charges, and Internet packages.  Here is the letter detailing all the increases.

Thanks, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
