DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Jule, Dubuque’s public transportation system, is offering free bus rides for voters on Tuesday, Nov. 5, which is Election Day for the Dubuque City Council and the Dubuque Community School Board.
Residents who wish to utilize this free service must request a
“Ride to Vote” pass from The Jule by phone (563.589.4196), email (
transit@cityofdubuque.org) or from any Jule bus driver or from staff at the Intermodal Transportation Center at 950 Elm Street. “Ride to Vote” passes will be available through Election Day.
On Election Day, The Jule’s fixed-route service and on-demand service will provide free “Ride to Vote” rides while polls are open -- from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Fixed-route buses will not deviate from regular routes but will provide rides to bus stops within reasonable walking distance of all polling places in Dubuque. “Ride to Vote” passengers must present the pass when boarding. Upon request, transportation services staff will provide information to participants to assist with their navigation from fixed-route stops to polling places. Residents are encouraged to find their polling place by visiting
https://gis.dbqco.org/electionpollingplaces/ Details on polling places, bus routes, and the locations of the nearest fixed-route bus stops are available at
www.cityofdubuque.org/ridetovote.
“Many residents have limited transit mobility and are dependent upon fixed-route and minibus service to conduct their daily routines,” said City of Dubuque Transportation Services Director
Renee Tyler. “We hope that providing free rides for voters will increase participation in the election of local officials.”
