Central Avenue Sidewalk Curb Ramp Reconstructions Start Monday
Work will begin on Monday to install 28 new ADA-compliant sidewalk curb ramps and associated underground utility work on Central Ave. intersections between Ninth St. and 21st Street. These improvements are in preparation for Central Ave. pavement resurfacing from Ninth to 21st streets next spring.
Beginning Monday, Aug. 12, contractors working for the City of Dubuque will begin sidewalk curb ramp reconstruction at the intersections of Central Ave. and Ninth St. and Central Ave. and Fourteenth St. As curb ramp reconstruction work progresses, the contractors will continue on to other intersections on Central Ave. between Ninth and 21st streets.
Traffic control will be set up during construction and will be staged in two phases. Central Ave. will be reduced to one lane with work occurring on the east side of the roadway during phase one and the west side of the roadway during phase two. Pedestrian access/routes will be maintained throughout the project. The contractor will work with residents and businesses to maintain access to building entrances and to private driveways. On-street parking will be impacted during the construction phases.
The sidewalk ramps are scheduled to be reconstructed this year while the street resurfacing work is to occur in the spring of 2020. For more information on this project, please contact the City of Dubuque Engineering Department at 563.589.4270.
Please Note: closure dates/times are estimates and are subject to change without notification based on weather and contractor schedules.
