DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Dubuque Preservation Fair will be held Sept. 6 and 7 to educate participants on topics related to historic preservation and restoration. The two-day fair will provide information and resources regarding preservation, energy efficiency, and window restoration techniques. These events will take place at Steeple Square, 101 E 15th St., at no cost to participants.
FAIR SCHEDULE
Friday, Sept. 6
12:30 - 4:30 p.m. – Window Restoration Workshop with Bob Yapp - Bob Yapp, historic preservationist and national window restoration expert, will demonstrate window restoration techniques including paint stripping, sash repairs, weatherization, and more. Participants will then have the opportunity to practice some of the techniques. RSVPs encouraged.
Saturday, Sept. 7
9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. – Preservation Expo - Contractor vendors will be available to showcase products and services offered in the community that impact the preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings. No RSVP is required for the Expo. Those interested in being a vendor can sign up here.
1:30 – 2:30 p.m. – Class 1: Energy Efficiency in Historic Buildings - Historic buildings have the reputation of being energy inefficient. In this class, you will learn how to increase your building’s energy efficiency without compromising its character. RSVPs encouraged.
3:00 – 4:00 p.m. – Class 2: Nuts & Bolts of Owning a Historic Building - This class will cover the basics of owning and buying a historic building. Topics will include considerations when purchasing a historic building, financial incentives, historic districts, and insuring historic buildings. RSVPs encouraged.
