DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Jule, Dubuque’s public transit system, announced today that it will join other public transportation systems across the country in participating in National “Get On Board Day” on Thursday, April 25.
Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the 2019 National Get On Board Day encourages people to support public transportation and showcases the benefits it brings to communities. - Each weekday in the U.S., 34 million people board public transportation.
- 87% of public transit trips directly benefit the economy by getting people to work and connecting them to local businesses.
- Public transportation helps seniors and others who struggle with mobility get where they want to go.
- Public transportation connects people to jobs by increasing access to employment opportunities.
- Every $1 invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns, powering community growth and revitalization.
- Owning a home near public transit boosts property values.
In Dubuque, The Jule manages fixed-route and paratransit services including 29 vehicles, three transfer locations, and over 280 bus stops throughout the community. Last fiscal year, The Jule provided over 507,000 rides (including 63,000 paratransit rides).
