Equipment failure in the TV Control room at City Hall Annex is preventing us from playing back any programs on CityChannel Dubuque. Fortunately, we’ve had a project in the works to replace that piece of equipment so we hope to have the problem corrected early in the week of February 18.
What has failed is called a router, or routing switcher. It accepts a number of video sources from various places and can send those sources to a number of destinations. The router is controlled by the computer that runs our program schedule and which starts programs playing back and then sends the program’s video signal to destinations that include the feed to Mediacom’s cable system and our online streaming encoder.
The new router arrived on Monday and we now have installed and connected to all the video sources and destinations. We need the company that makes the hardware and software that runs CityChannel Dubuque to make the system able to control the new router.
In the meantime, we have our graphics manually routed to Mediacom for CityChannel Dubuque (cable channel 8 or digital 117.2) and for CityChannel Graphics (cable channel 80 or digital 117.3). And because we can manually control the new router, we will still be able to air Monday’s City Council meeting live at 6 p.m. With luck, we’ll have the new router fully functioning early next week so we can resume running our regular programming.
I apologize for the inconvenience.
