Dubuque Receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, Special Capital Recognition

DUBUQUE, Iowa –The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has announced that the City of Dubuque has received the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the City’s budget for the 13th consecutive year. In addition, the City received “Special Capital Recognition” for its presentation of capital expenditures and impact of capital investments on operating budget. A Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation has been presented to City of Dubuque Budget Director Jennifer Larson.  

According to the GFOA, the award represents a significant achievement by the City and reflects the commitment of the City and City staff to meeting the highest principles of government budgeting.  

To receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.  These guidelines are designed to assess how well the entity’s budget serves as:

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award. The City of Dubuque received “proficient” or higher ratings in all required criteria. The GFOA says award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
