Oct. 18, 2018 -- For Immediate Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The City of Dubuque’s 2018-2019 public art exhibit, Art on the River “Driftless,” focuses on innovative sculpture that pays homage to the people, history, geography, flora, and fauna of the Driftless Region.  From October 25-27, the exhibit is expanding to include a special live performative sculptural installation by artist Jeremy Rudd.

Rudd is currently exhibiting a sculpture in Art on the River “Driftless” and was awarded “2017 Best of Show” for the sculpture “Harbinger: White Guide.” His primary medium is wood and for this live sculpt, Rudd will be using reclaimed driftwood sourced from the Mississippi River to create a zero-waste, sustainable, site-specific sculpture on the bank of the Mississippi River.

This sculptural experience is scheduled for a series of three days, October 25-27, 2018. From 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on October 25 and 26 and from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on October 27, the live sculpting will be visible from the Grand River Center Terrace and lookout point. In the event of severe weather, the event will be rescheduled to November 1-3, 2018.

Art on the River is part of the Dubuque City Council’s Arts and Culture initiative and to date has exhibited over 116 pieces on the Mississippi Riverwalk.  Pieces featured in the current Art on the River Exhibit are eligible for People’s Choice Award. To vote for your favorite, visit www.cityofdubuque.org/ArtontheRiver.

All traditional sculptures are for sale. The exhibit is free, can be viewed sunrise to sunset year-round, and is accessible. For additional information, please contact Arts and Cultural Affairs Coordinator Debra Alleyne at dalleyne@cityofdubuque.org or call 563-690-6059.
