For the 12th consecutive year, the Dubuque Police Department conducted a special project that significantly increased police presence at Dubuque schools during the first week of school, August 23rd-29th. The project involved officers adjusting their shift hours to provide extra patrols to area schools during the arrival and dismissal times.
The project resulted in multiple traffic contacts and gave officers a chance to have positive interaction with students. During the project, officers focused on violations that decrease and/or jeopardize the safety of students and school staff.
As time and calls for service permit, officers will continue to provide extra attention to area schools, especially during arrival/dismissal time.
