Feb. 28, 2018 -- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The City of Dubuque and the Dubuque Arts and Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission are now accepting competitive applications from all interested parties for operating support for the fiscal year (FY) 2019 grant cycle, which runs July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019.  The deadline to apply is Wednesday, April 4, 2018.  Information on how to apply, guidelines, tips, and applications are available at www.cityofdubuque.org/artsgrants.

Since 2005, the City of Dubuque has awarded over $3.1 million to area arts and culture organizations and other non-profits for programs that reach thousands of Dubuque adults and children each year. In addition, these funds have leveraged other community support for arts and culture events and programs, both in cash and in kind.  The operating support fund is designed to assist 501(C) (3) arts and cultural organizations located in the city of Dubuque that primarily serve Dubuque residents with year-round arts and culture events, programs, and services and can demonstrate a record of programmatic and administrative stability.

This year features a new financial reporting form intended to make the application process more equitable. Commissioner Sue Riedel says, “The commission wanted to continue to evolve with the best practice methods and, at the same time, make the application process simpler for organizations.”

All applicants are required to attend or send a representative to a grant workshop to receive additional information on the changes. Workshops specific to the operating support grant will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, March 13, and 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, in the Aigler Auditorium at the Carnegie-Stout Public Library, 360 W. 11th Street.

Applications must be submitted through an online form available at www.cityofdubuque.org/artsgrants. The deadline for submissions is midnight Wednesday, April 4.  All grant applications are scored by an unaffiliated review panel.  Funding schemes are appointed by the arts and cultural affairs advisory commission in a blind review and final approval is issued by the City Council.

Complete application materials are posted online at www.cityofdubuque.org/artsgrants.  For additional information, visit www.cityofdubuque.org/artsandculture or contact City of Dubuque Arts and Cultural Affairs Coordinator Debra Alleyne at 563-690-6059 or dalleyne@cityofdubuque.org.
