INCIDENT TYPE: Residential Structure Fire

The Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call on Wednesday, December 10th at 16:36 reporting that a residence was filling with smoke. The Dubuque Fire Department was dispatched within 38 seconds. Initial responding units included Battalion 1, Truck 4, Medic 1, Engine 1, Engine 3, Truck 1, and Engine 6, bringing a total of 19 firefighters to the incident.
Engine 6 arrived on scene and reported no visible smoke or fire from the exterior. Battalion 1 arrived shortly after and established command. Engine 1 and Engine 6 crews made entry to investigate, while Truck 1 conducted a 360 and placed a ladder to the porch roof for access.
Interior crews encountered light smoke and minimal heat on the second floor. A pre-connected hoseline was deployed, and water was on the fire within nine minutes of arrival. A backup line was positioned at the front door but not charged. The fire was knocked down two minutes later. Crews initiated ventilation and began overhaul operations in the fire room. Overhaul confirmed no extension beyond the room of origin.
Estimated losses totaled $23,366. No injuries to responders or residents were reported.
