INCIDENT TYPE: Residential Structure Fire
ADDRESS/LOCATION: 751 Alta Vista Street - Dubuque
The Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 12:11:41 from a tenet of the apartments at 1717 Kane Street reporting a fire in his residence. Units were dispatched to the scene at 12:12:12. Initial responding vehicles included Battalion 1, Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 6, Truck 1, Truck 4, and Medic 1. This brought a total of 20 fire fighters to the scene.
Engine 3 was the first unit on scene and reported nothing showing from the outside of the structure. Engine 2 arrived shortly after and walked around the building and noted smoke coming from the soffit of the structure in the center of the building. Engine 3 spoke with the occupant of apartment 13 who had reported the fire and went to that apartment. They inspected the apartment and upon entering the furnace room noticed a glow from a fire around the furnace vent in the attic. A 2.5-inch line was pulled from the rear of Engine 3 and stretched to the stairwell at the center of the building. Two 2-inch lines were attached to the gated wye and used as the attack line and back up line. The ceiling in the kitchen area was pulled revealing a small fire in the attack. The fire was extinguished with the initial line. Inspection holes were punched through in the ceilings of the adjacent apartments to check for extension. none was noted. A tarp was placed in the fire room to catch as much water as possible and keep it from reaching the first-floor apartment directly below.
Total loss from the fire is estimated at $8,000. There were no injuries reported.
