Dubuque Fire Department to Host September 11 Remembrance Open Houses
As the anniversary of September 11 approaches, the Dubuque Fire Department invites the community to join them in honoring and remembering the nearly 3,000 lives lost on that tragic day in 2001, including 343 New York firefighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
To mark the occasion, all Dubuque fire stations will host informal open houses on Thursday, Sept. 11, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Community members, neighbors, families, retired and former fire department members, and friends are encouraged to stop by for coffee, conversation, and connection.
“This day is a powerful reminder of why we serve,” said Dubuque Fire Chief Amy Scheller. “It’s a time to reflect on the meaning of our work, the value of our relationships, and the responsibility we share to honor the legacy of those we lost.”
The open houses are designed to provide a welcoming space for reflection and community. Attendees are invited to visit any of the city’s fire stations during the two-hour window.
