INCIDENT TYPE: Residential Structure Fire
ADDRESS/LOCATION: 1707 South Grandview Ave. - Dubuque
The Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 1:12 AM from a resident reporting the back deck on fire. The Dubuque Fire Department was dispatched to the scene within 30 seconds. Initial responding vehicles included Battalion 1, Truck 4, Medic 1, Engine 1, Engine 5, Truck 1, and Engine 6. The response brought 14 firefighters in total for the fire.
Engine 5 arrived on scene within 4 minutes of dispatch reporting a fully involved deck fire. Battalion 1 arrived on scene and established Grandview Command. Engine 5 stretched a hose line to the rear of the building and began extinguishing the exterior fire. Truck 1 arrived and reported that all occupants were out of the building. Engine 5 connected to a fire hydrant. Truck 4 and Medic 1 were assigned to the interior to check for fire extension. The exterior fire was extinguished by Engine 5 and Engine 1 personnel within 10 minutes of arrival. The apartments had no fire damage however light smoke damage was observed. Exterior crews located fire in a parapet wall and in the flat roof system. Truck 1 was used to reach the roof to overhaul and extinguish remaining spot fires. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Volunteers from the Red Cross assisted two families to find temporary living arrangements. All occupants and pets were unharmed. Estimated property loss of $60,000.
The Dubuque Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Dubuque Police Department. There were no injuries to responders reported.
