ADDRESS/LOCATION: 446 Kaufmann Avenue - Dubuque
The Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 8:07 PM from a resident reporting a garage fire next to his home. The homeowner applied a fire extinguisher though the fire grew too quickly. The Dubuque Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 8:07 PM. Initial responding vehicles included Command 528, Engine 501, Medic 551, Engine 503, Ladder 511, and Engine 512. The response brought 16 firefighters in total on the initial alarm.
The first unit, Command 528, arrived to Kaufmann Ave. within 5 minutes reporting flames coming from a detached garage. Incident command was established, and a fire hose was charged with water and applied to the flames. Crews advanced another fire hose to the 2nd floor to extinguish fire also. Crews reported heavy smoke conditions inside the garage and ejected smoke with a fan. Crews overhauled the garage to ensure all fire was extinguished. The fire was determined to be accidental by the Assistant Fire Marshal due to an unattended wood burning stove. The garage sustained extensive fire damage. Losses were estimated at $7,300.
The Dubuque Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Dubuque Police Department. There were no injuries to responders reported.
