Man Charged with Carrying Weapons on School Grounds

DUBUQUE, Iowa –  On September 3rd, 2024 at approximately 3:20pm, a Dubuque Police School Resource Officer was requested at Audubon School, 605 Lincoln Ave., to assist with a parental custody issue.  One of the parties involved, identified as John McGee DOB: 03/22/85 of Dubuque, arrived on campus several minutes after dismissal and was allowed entry by a staff member.  The School Resource Officer observed a bulge in McGee’s shirt just above his waistline and recognized the shape to be consistent with a handgun.  The School Resource Officer disarmed McGee and took him into custody without incident. The firearm was found to be an unloaded .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun.  McGee was placed under arrest and charged with Carrying Weapons on School Grounds, a Class D felony.
