City of Dubuque Offices Closed Wednesday for Juneteenth

City of Dubuque offices will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. This includes City Hall and most other City offices and facilities, including Carnegie-Stout Public Library.   

There will be no service/schedule changes to trash and recycling collection and Wednesday routes will be collected as normal. Additionally, there will be no schedule changes to transportation services provided by The Jule. However, Intermodal Transportation Center offices will be closed and there will be no parking meter enforcement on Wednesday, June 19.  

Juneteenth, also called Emancipation Day, became a federal holiday in 2021. It celebrates the day in 1865 when the abolition of slavery was announced in Texas. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1, 1863, it was not formally announced or enforced in the state of Texas until June 19, 1865, more than two years later.
