Iowa DOT South Grandview Bridge Replacement Project Starting March 20

The Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) South Grandview Bridge Replacement Project will begin on Wednesday, March 20. The project will require the complete closure of the S. Grandview Ave. bridge and lane closures beneath the bridge on U.S. 61/151. The following closures and detours are scheduled to begin next week.

• March 20: U.S. 61/151 Lane Closures
  The northbound and southbound inside lanes of U.S. 61/151 will close for the removal of median barriers.
• March 21: South Grandview Ave. Bridge Closure at 8 a.m.
  The South Grandview Ave. bridge will close at 8 a.m. on Thursday, March 21. Eastbound and westbound traffic on S. Grandview Ave. will be detoured to Rockdale Rd., Mar Jo Quarry Rd., and Julien Dubuque Dr. The bridge will be completely closed to pedestrian traffic. 
• March 21 - 27 : U.S. 61/151 Closures Due to Bridge Demolition
  Demolition of the South Grandview Ave. bridge will occur during the overnight hours from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. and is expected to take approximately 3 - 5 days. Overnight work will not occur over the weekend. At night, during the demolition, U.S. 61/151 will be completely closed. Northbound and southbound traffic will be detoured to the Grandview Ave. entrance and exit ramps. During the daytime hours from 6 a.m. - 9 p.m., northbound and southbound traffic on U.S. 61/151 will each be reduced to one lane. Overnight demolition is expected to occur on Thursday, March 21, and Sunday March 24 - Wednesday, March 27.
• Approximately March 28: U.S. 61/151 Northbound Lanes Closure
  On approximately Thursday, March 28, or as soon as the bridge demolition is complete, the northbound lanes of U.S. 61/151 will close and traffic will be shifted head-to-head in the southbound lanes. During the project, the Grandview Ave. exit and entrance ramps will remain open. To access S. Locust St. or travel east on S. Grandview Ave., northbound 61/151 traffic must use the Grandview Ave. exit ramp (Exit 187).

The Iowa DOT expects the bridge replacement project to be finished in November 2024.
