Avelo Switches Dubuque Orlando Flight to Seasonal Schedule
JAN. 10, 2024
Avelo Air is switching its Dubuque service to/from Orlando to a seasonal service, meaning flights to and from Orlando will pause in early April 2024 and resume in November 2024. Avelo says no scheduled flights will be affected through early April. Customers with questions should contact Avelo Customer Support at 346-616-9500 or visit Aveloair.com.
The Dubuque Regional Airport is one of eight airports with Avelo service to Orlando that are being switched to seasonal service. Avelo has identified crew levels, aircraft maintenance schedules, and demand compared to this time last year as factors in the decision.
The air travel industry is constantly evolving, and airlines are continuously reviewing and adapting their offerings. Low-cost carriers, in particular, frequently modify their service schedules at airports around the country. Avelo modified its services at 26 airports over the last year and at least two other low-cost carriers have done so in more than 20 markets in the same timeframe. Such adjustments to air service at airports with multiple carriers often go largely unnoticed.
“Unfortunately, service adjustments are a common and ongoing process with low-cost carriers like Avelo and seasonal service is becoming the norm with tourism- or leisure-driven flights,” said Dubuque Airport Manager Todd Dalsing. “We will continue our efforts to recruit additional carriers to Dubuque to provide air service options for the region.”
Dalsing added that Dubuque’s Community Air Service Task Force (CAST) and partners continue to meet weekly to aggressively seek out additional carriers and the return of daily air service to the airport. CAST and the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce will host a community air service forum on February 22 to provide a comprehensive update on the continuing efforts to return daily air service to the Dubuque Regional Airport. More information on this event will be available soon.
“The reality is, as we continue to explore other carriers and service options, these occasional schedule changes and service adjustments may be the new norm,” said Dalsing.
Dubuque Mayor Brad Cavanagh said, “While we have endured many changes and challenges related to commercial air service in our region over the past two years, I want to make one thing very clear so there is no confusion. Returning daily commercial air service from the Dubuque Regional Airport to a major hub remains our top priority. We will not rest until we achieve this goal.”
“Though we wish there was less disruption in the airline industry right now, we do appreciate the service Avelo has provided to our community, and we appreciate their continuing partnership,” added Cavanagh.
