Avelo Discontinues Las Vegas Flights, Effective Jan. 6, 2024

As part of a recent evaluation of its national network, Avelo Airlines notified the Dubuque Regional Airport today (Nov. 21) of its decision to discontinue its Dubuque to Las Vegas service, effective Jan. 6, 2024.  This change does not affect Avelo’s flights from Dubuque to Orlando. 

Avelo began offering flights from Dubuque to Las Vegas on Sept. 13 and cited low demand and other factors in its decision to discontinue the service in January.   

Avelo customers who booked flights to Las Vegas after Jan. 6, are being notified by Avelo about refunds or vouchers. Avelo customers can also contact customer support at 346-616-9500 or Aveloair.com. 

“The Dubuque Regional Airport remains committed to providing air service to customers in the Dubuque region,” said Airport Manager Todd Dalsing. “While we are disappointed in today’s decision, we look forward to continuing to work with Avelo Airlines to offer low-cost flights to leisure destinations, including our existing flights to Orlando. It is our hope that we can collaborate with air carriers to find additional destinations to help expand our offerings at DBQ.” 

Dalsing said the air travel industry is constantly evolving, and airlines are continuously reviewing and adapting their offerings to meet market demands.  

“These air service trends are not specific to Dubuque. We will continue to work with the Commercial Air Service Task Force (CAST) to aggressively seek out additional carriers and the return of daily air service to Dubuque,” said Dalsing.  

Since Avelo began offering flights from Dubuque to Orlando in March, there have been more than 13,000 passengers to either Orlando or Las Vegas from the Dubuque Regional Airport. While Avelo requested (and received) a minimum revenue guarantee for its initial service to Orlando, there was no such agreement for the Las Vegas flights.  The minimum revenue guarantee to Avelo for the Orlando flight has already been fulfilled by the airport and its partners.
